Biographie
Gaëlle Graton a étudié en sociologie et Film Production à l’Université Concordia. En 2020, son premier scénario de court métrage de fiction intitulé L’AUTRE RIVE remporte la bourse du programme Tricycle de Main Film. Au printemps 2021, elle réalise ce premier film qui connaît sa première mondiale à la 26e édition Festival Regard et remporte le prix du public de la compétition parallèle. En 2022, à titre de scénariste-réalisatrice et/ou productrice, elle développe deux courts métrages dont JUPONS produit par UGO Média, ainsi qu’un long métrage intitulé SOIF co-écrit avec Judith Baribeau (Les Nôtres) développé chez Les films Camera Oscura. À l’heure actuelle, elle produit également du court métrage à titre de productrice pigiste en plus de travailler comme coordonnatrice de la distribution des longs métrages chez h264. Comme autrice et poète, elle compte aussi parmi ses contributions importantes, Un peuple à genoux (2016), Libérer la colère (2018), Projet #moiaussi (2020).

Gaëlle Graton est une cinéaste intéressée à explorer le cinéma à partir d'un point de vue sociologique. Sa création est propulsée par un désir d’aligner son travail d’écriture et de réalisation à celle d’une recherche de sens sur notre société. Ses études en sociologie et en cinéma lui ont permis de développer une sensibilité et un regard critique sur la représentation des groupes sous-représentés au grand écran. À cet effet, son objectif premier est celui de raconter des histoires qui répondent à cette prémisse.
De film en film, elle espère questionner comment l’espoir se fonde au sein de différents groupes marginalisés. Bref, quand Gaëlle songe à l'évolution de son oeuvre, elle est habitée par ce profond désir de continuer à faire du cinéma engagé inspiré de l'actualité québécoise; inspiré d'ici.
Outre l'écriture et la réalisation, elle se joint à divers productions comme coordonnatrice de production, scripte, assistante à la réalisation et camerawoman.
Biography
Gaëlle Graton is a filmmaker interested in exploring cinema from a sociological point of view. Her creative process is propelled by a strong desire to align her writing and directing work with that of a search for meaning. Her studies in sociology and filmmaking have allowed her to develop a sensitivity and a critical eye on the representation of underrepresented groups on the big screen. To this end, her primary objective is to tell stories that respond to this premise. In 2022, her first short fiction film L’AUTRE RIVE (A SHORE AWAY) premieres at Festival REGARD and wins the audience award in the parallel competition. In 2022, as a writer-director, she is developing two short films including JUPONS (PETTICOATS) produced by UGO Médias, as well as a feature film entitled SOIF (THIRSTY) co-written with Judith Baribeau (OUR OWN) developed at Les Camera Oscura films. She also produces short films as a freelance producer in addition to working as a feature film distribution coordinator at h264. A
From film to film, she hopes to capture various manifestations of hope among different marginalized groups. In short, when Gaëlle thinks about the evolution of her work, she is inhabited by this deep desire to continue making engaged cinema inspired by current events around her.
Besides writing and directing, she joins various productions as production coordinator, script supervisor, assistant director and camerawoman.
